LSI - Latent Semantic Indexing
Few people have yet heard of latent semantic indexing (lsi). For those that have heard of it some might still not understand exactly how it works. Search engines like google for years have been working to improve their algorithms to give searchers better results and to also weed out spam websites that offer little value.
One of the ways webmasters have used to gain better results in the search engines is by using the same keyword multiple times in their content. Some take it to extremes by repeating the same keyword constantly which is considered spam.
Google has started using lsi in their algorithms to find and reward content that is of higher quality.
Here is basically how latent semantic indexing works. Instead of repeating the same keyword multiple times you only use it once. Then related keywords are used. For example if your site is about flowers instead of repeating the word flowers you only use it once and add other words like daisys and roses.
It is the wave of the future of seo so to speak and those who start using lsi in their content will be ahead of the game. As lsi becomes more common it will be more difficult for those who stick to the old tricks of keyword stuffing to get organic traffic to their sites.
